The Schengen Visa
The entry or transit of non- EEA nationals in the Schengen area is evidenced by the official stamping of his travel document
1. that determines the starting point of the period of authorized stay .
2. the same document being stamped also at the exit from the Schengen area.
If the travel document does not bear an entry stamp, the authorities may presume that the holder does not or no longer qualifies for the duration of his stay.
The main types of Schengen visa
- Short-stay Schengen visa
The short-stay visa is the most common Schengen visa. It allows travelers requiring a visa to enter the territory of one or more of the 25 Schengen countries with a view to carry out a continuous visit or several stays – the total duration does not exceed 90 days per semester from the date of first entry into the Schengen area . The short-stay visa is issued for one or more entries. Its validity may not exceed five years.
The single entry visa allows a stay unique and uninterrupted for a period not exceeding the number of days specified on the visa, this number may in no case exceed 90 days per semester. In the example to the right, the length of stay authorized by the visa is 30 days. A deductible of 15 additional days of validity of the visa is normally granted in addition to the number of days of stay granted by the visa, in case the traveler postpones departure.
The multiple-entry visa allows multiple visits to the territory of one or more Schengen States, whose total duration does not exceed 90 days per semester from the date of first entry. The stay can be performed without interruption or be divided into several periods of validity of the visa. The validity of a multiple-entry visa is between 6 months and 5 years for travelers who provide the necessary guarantees.
- Schengen visa transit
The transit visa allows the person who goes to a non- Schengen country to another non- Schengen State through the territory of one or more Schengen States. This visa is issued for one or more transits. The duration of authorized stay is the time required for transit.
- Airport transit visa
